AmiBroker does not import from AmiQuote

I have just started with AmiBroker and I can’t get tickers downloaded by AmiQuote into AmiBroker. This has been working before, but no more. I’ve read the readme, searched the forum and the AmiBroker site, but couldn’t find a hint what’s wrong (please
see also screenshots):

  • I’m running the latest versions of AmiBroker and AmiQuote, both 64 Bit
  • I’m using the same Windows account
  • I haven’t changed any default accounts
  • AmiBroker is running while AmiQuote imports
  • I have the “Automatic import” checked
  • I can find the downloaded files in the AmiQuote download directory, but neither in the AmiBroker data directory nor in the symbols list.

With every file downloaded the AmiBroker startup screen is flashing, stating “Preparing user interface…”

Thanx for your help!

It updates, but not what you think.

The "flashing" interface means that ANOTHER AMIBROKER INSTANCE (different than running one) is started in the background.

So you expect it to import to running instance, but it imports to OTHER (freshly started) instance.

It can happen for example if either AmiQuote is run as admin, while AmiBroker is not, or vice versa (AmiBroker as admin while AmiQuote not). This can also happen when software is not properly installed and OLE registration is wrong. OLE registration might be fixed by running both programs ONCE as admin.

For the solution please read point 5 from the post: Every Yahoo problem from September 6 is solved by AmiQuote 4.16

Thank you for your fast and detailed feedback, Tomasz!

Strange. I only use 1 account on this computer, and it's an admin account.
Nevertheless explicitly starting AmiBroker and AmiQuote as admin solved the problem.

That is because in Windows "admin" account is not really an admin, unless you run "as admin" then you are "admin" with true "admin" (i.e. elevated rights).
If this sounds nonsense, say thank you to fantastic designers of Windows

"Run As Admin" option should really be named "Run Elevated" because Elevated rights is what you get with this option. But guys @Microsoft decided to confuse people.
