Internet connection problem on USER computer

Hi, I am getting a internet connection error while trying to download yahoo historical data.
I checked the firewall & antivirus & Amiquote is not being blocked.
Also I tried viewing the symbol historical data on yahoo finance site and I can access the same.
Is anyone else facing a similar issue or could help with how to resolve this one?
I am using Amiquote 4.12 & this download was running fine till 2-3 days back.

The error is SELF-EXPLANATORY. It is INTERNET problem, not AmiQuote problem.

Yes you DO have problem with connectivity and you (i.e. your antivirus, your firewall, your router, or anything on the way) are blocking it. Check everything AGAIN, this time more carefully. You might have been blocked by Yahoo too. Or your local network provider has connectivity issue with Yahoo. Or you have bad proxy. Check with INTERNET EXPLORER, not anything else (NOT Chrome, NOT Firefox).

If you have doubts, ask ChatGPT and it will explain you what does it mean "A connection with the server could not be established"

Here is what ChatGPT would tell you (and there is really NOTHING more to add)

The error "A connection with the server could not be established" typically indicates that your device is unable to connect to a remote server. This error can be caused by a variety of factors, including network connectivity issues, firewall settings, incorrect credentials, or problems with the server itself.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this error:

Check your network connection: Make sure that your device is connected to a network and that your internet connection is working properly. If you are using Wi-Fi, try resetting your router or modem.

Check your firewall settings: If you have a firewall enabled on your device, make sure that it is not blocking the connection to the server. You may need to add an exception to your firewall to allow the connection.

Check your credentials: If you are trying to connect to a server that requires authentication, make sure that you are using the correct username and password. If you are not sure, contact the server administrator for assistance.

Check the server: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it is possible that there is a problem with the server itself. Check with the server administrator to see if there are any known issues or outages.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to seek additional assistance from a technical support professional or the server administrator.

@himanshugoyal,

You mentioned that you already checked firewall & antivirus. So, the issue is happening at your end because of some IP conflict or any other unknown reason.

Do you've working internet?

From an elevated command prompt would suggest doing below one by one:

  1. Type ipconfig /release hit Enter
  2. Type ipconfig /flushdns hit Enter
  3. Type ipconfig /renew hit Enter
  4. Type netsh int ip reset hit Enter
  5. Type netsh winsock reset hit Enter

Then restart PC to check whether the issue is resolved. If the issues still persist, you need to contact your ISP.

There are a few ways to check if a program is being blocked from accessing the internet by the Windows Firewall or antivirus software:

Check Windows Firewall settings:

Open the Control Panel and select "Windows Firewall"
Click on "Advanced Settings" on the left-hand side
Look for the inbound and outbound rules for the program you want to check. If the program is being blocked, there will be a rule that blocks traffic for that program.

Disable antivirus temporarily:

Disable your antivirus temporarily and check if the program can access the internet. If it can, then the antivirus may be blocking it.

Use a network monitoring tool:

Use a network monitoring tool like Wireshark to monitor the traffic to and from the program. If there is no traffic or the traffic is being blocked, then the program is being blocked from accessing the internet.

Check the event log:

Open the Windows Event Viewer and navigate to the "Windows Logs" section.
Look for events related to the program you want to check. If there are events indicating that the program is being blocked from accessing the internet, then it is being blocked.

@Tomasz @Cougar Thank you both for the troubleshooting steps.
Since I couldn't find some error in the internet setup at my end and I could use the internet connection for all other purposes, I didn't knew what to do next. 2 days later Amiquote yahoo was working fine with same config.
I suspect some issue at yahoo end or some setting issue for yahoo download.
Today I again encountered the same issue with Amiquote yahoo download so I tried to isolate it.
I tried a demo download with stooq.pl & it worked just fine which could mean that the issue is likely to do something with yahoo site rather than internet connectivity at my end.
While this didn't resolve the download issue but thought of letting the forum know in case they face a similar error with yahoo download.

Yes, there are only three possibilities when you get "connection with the server could not be established". Either problem is on your side, somewhere along the way (connection) or on remote side.
If "after 2 days" it went back to normal, it means that you have been blocked by Yahoo. This can happen if you bomb them with requests / downloads.
In such case, use "FAIL SAFE" settings (the default) to download slowly. Keep in mind that Yahoo has limits. They won't allow you to download entire world in an hour. You have to download slowly so you don't hit their Denial-Of-Service attack protections.

This is nothing new. There is no new information. It was all already covered dozens of times in the FAQ.

The FAQ IS FIRST THING to check

@Tomasz Appreciate the assistance.
If the problem was on my system side or with the connection, the downloads from other sites like stooq.pl should have failed too which did not happen.
As for the yahoo blocking issue, am not sure why would that come into play with a symbol list of just 1 symbol & less than 30 bars of data but in any case, I am already on the default settings. Just rechecked them against the fail safe settings. Hoping it was just a technical glitch somewhere on the route which resolves itself. Is there any way to know at the user end if one has been blocked by Yahoo finance(like a ping or something)? Thanks

Yahoo uses load balancing and ping would be OK, while they would block you on downloads. The only way to know is to trust AmiQuote. If it reports an error, there is an error OUTSIDE of AmiQuote.
