The answer is in AmiQuote Frequenty Asked Questions (point 12):

At August 2024, I've had a frustrating time with 'ASX.tls' on Australian stocks provided above.

The 1st time I tried it, it worked fine. I then added tickers to the list and found that the downloads no longer worked. I went back to the original 'ASX.tls' and found that no longer worked either.

I tried another file on US stocks and that worked fine. I then went back to 'ASX.tls' and it still did not work. I waited another day(s). Still no longer working.

It is obvious (?) I have upset some Yahoo setting(?) But how to resolve? Why would it work OK immediatyely before on US stocks, but then not 'ASX.tls'?

Here is what I see:

Settings are:

I should add, once you see the "Requesting data..." for longer than a second, the operation will time out as will every subsequent ticker.

Ideas welcome. thanks, JonS

This is totally unrelated to ASX market setup.

A topic on error message you got already exists (search before posting): Local file can't be opened, was: Cannot update my database

The question and answer have now been moved to appropriate topic.

"Local file can't be open" is self- explanatory - it means that AmiQuote can't open a file on your computer.

This is most often caused by non-existing destination folder.

In AmiQuote, please go to Tools -> Settings,
then make sure that "Destination Folder" is correct and it really exists
on your hard disk, and that it is not set as READ ONLY (check folder's properties in Windows Explorer)

You can also set-up a completely new folder and pick it as a destination folder in AmiQuote

That D:\Data\Trading\Trading Applications\... folder is NOT what AmiQuote is setup with by default.

By default AmiQuote uses AmiQuote \ Download folder, i.e.
"C:\Program Files\AmiBroker\AmiQuote\Download"
(assuming that AmiBroker is installed in "C:\Program Files\AmiBroker")

And you SHOULD NOT CHANGE THE DEFAULTS unless you very well know what you are doing.
But you changed the download folder to something that is not existing and now you are surprised it doesn't work.

Bottom line: DON'T CHANGE default settings. They work out of the box!

Last but not least - always use MOST RECENT AmiQuote version (currently 4.15).
