Anyone ever see this before? Win7/AB6.20.1
As I wrote over support channel, normal print preview pane looks like this:
What you presented is not coming from AmiBroker directly as I do not write Chinese/Japanese.
These are all wild guesses only but it looks to me like some 3rd party product or Windows add on (printer driver / add-on?) takes over the text of buttons in print preview or some weird font is installed or something else. No one else ever reported such thing.
I understand, Tomasz, that this is not normal, not caused by Amibroker, and something external to AB is causing it. I'm just trying to find out if anyone else has encountered it and, if so, what they may have done to correct it. I've tried all potential solutions offered in my web searches and, short of reinstalling windows, I'm out of ideas. What's strange is that AB is the only program that seems to be affected by this; none of my other program's print dialogues are affected.
The only thing I can advice is to install other version (like 64 bit or BETA 6.28) and check if that helps.
Thanks Tomasz. I need to stay on 32-bit, but the 6.28 beta did not help.
Based on your screenshot, it looks like your computer is using the Japanese version of Windows.
The following might also give you some clues:
ChangeDisplayLanguageInWindows7
ChangeTheLanguageInWindows7
In my own experience the language change is not 100%. For example, on my Japanese based Windows machine, when I change the language to English, some dialogs will still show Japanese.
FWIW, the order of the buttons is the same so you can use the screenshot from @Tomasz to translate the buttons' text.
Thanks, but tried all that. It's running the english version, not japanese. I think there's file corruption somewhere within my win7 OS.
Hi @japple55,
Could you check whether the same issue persist for another admin user on your Win7 OS?
If you do not have other user, then create one from Control Panel as Admin and restart your PC onto that user account to confirm whether the same issue still persist there or not - Lifewire link.
If you do not find the issue there, then backup your stuff, afterwards simply transfer your C:\Users files from your current user to the new user and delete the previous one. Unfortunately, if the problem still persist, then, the best solution would be to backup your stuff and do a clean OS re-install.
Moreover, before getting into the above, I would suggest you to try the following chronologically with a bit of patience (for now just use the trial for below applications):
- Run Malwarebytes (Ensure to click on checkbox Settings>Scan for rootkits) - Link
- Run HitmanPro - Link
- Run adwcleaner - Link
- Once the system is restarted, ideally, it should be clean from the troublemakers. If still not resolved at this point, then go to step 5
- Run Windows Repair (All In One) - Link
- Restart your PC, if still not resolved at this point, OS re-install is the only solution, also if the issue persisted in the new user account.
Before getting into all of this - make sure to SAFELY BACK UP YOUR DATA.....
Have a nice weekend!
Regards,
Lennon
Thanks, Lennon, for your detailed suggestions. I've spent the last few hours trying all the steps you suggested, but without success. I guess a full OS install is going to be necessary. I will put that off since this is more of an annoyance that a major operational problem. As you said, I can figure out what buttons to press when I need to. It just aggravates me knowing that something isn't as it should be. Thanks again.
Jim
This is my preview pane:
The texts are in Spanish because I'm using an Spanish Windows version.
I suppose that Amibroker is using one (or more) system components to show the print preview screen (only @Tomasz can tell us which ones).
You should search the solution for the problem in the configuration of this component(s).
Thanks LeoCV, but I wouldn't know where to begin, even if I DID know which system components he is using.
Just out of curiosity Jim, like my printer comes with all these language settings that can be changed and the same selection would show up in Windows. Have you tried uninstalling the printer drivers completely?
I have not, but it's a though. I also have a Ricoh installed, but mainly use an Epson.
Jim, whats the print preview language in other applications, like in MS-Word, IE, etc..? Also you could try Method 5: Reset low integrity level on the Low folder. Let us know if you find the solution.
Cheers!
Thanks. All the other print menus are in English. I'll report back if I get it resolved.
