I've been happily using MetaStock DataLink as my eod quote provider for some 6 years now. As per EOD, Swing and Position Traders "XENITH for DC Global Subscription" formerly (2019-2024) "MetaStock DataLink" for $429.95 /yr I had access to up to 336,761 security quotes, as far back as 1970. I've been trading equities and several futures on some 20+ exchanges, besides the obvious US: Japan, Germany, Canada, Australia, Sweden, LSE AIM. They're changing data providers by the end of June 2025 to Refinitiv/XENITH for Daily Charts/LSEG and their implementation, speed, daily limitations, make the new offering unusable to me.
Who's Reuters DataLink that they're phasing out, do they provide a data feed directly to retail traders?
Is there any other reliable replacement, that has a global eod all-in-one offering?
Premium Data, Norgate, etc seem to cater to US/CA/AU but not Japan + Europe quotes?
Prior to 2019 I've used free Yahoo Finance data, but I got what I paid for when it came to data quality and reliability.
I also used Quandl around 2019, where they were selling quotes per single exchange such as Tokyo. They seem to have been acquired by Nasdaq, does anyone have any more recent experience with them?
@mdwin01, in my opinion, there's no perfect replacement…
You might want to Google EODHD, MarketStack, and FinancialModelingPrep to compare their offerings. Also, check out this page on Quantpedia: it includes a good overview of historical data providers, including some institutional-grade services.
Probably the most reliable option for high-quality EOD data (especially for US, Canada, and Australia) is Norgate. For other exchanges, you could supplement it with one of the three providers mentioned above.
That said, before switching, consider the added complexity of using multiple data sources: different formats, unaligned tickers, inconsistent coverage, and the extra effort to integrate them smoothly.
Maybe the implementation, speed, and daily limitations of the new MS offering - along with the new total cost - aren't so bad in comparison once you factor in the work required to maintain a multi-source setup.
P.S. The transition from Reuters to Refinitiv (now part of LSEG, the London Stock Exchange Group) is the result of a long chain of acquisitions, mergers, and spin-offs, each leading to shifts in product offerings and target markets. Again a Google search can help you better understand the background and how these changes may have affected data services over time.
@mdwin01 in the above list I forgot to mention JustData that in addition to US/CA/AU provide data from some exchanges not always offered by some other services: Bombay, Hong Kong, Singapore, London, New Zealand (in Amibroker you can access their data via the Metastock plugin).
Another company that still cites Amibroker as potential client for its EOD data service is the German based Lenz + Partner.
I switched to eodhd.com as it had the most comprehensive exchange support and good reviews. It is missing Japanese and Italian exchanges, plus Futures and FTSE indices, which I get from finance.yahoo.com for the time being.
