Yahoo Historical stopped working March 10, 2020 - solved

Hi.
Getting "Yahoo Error: code: Unauthorized , description : Invalid Cookie"
I'm in Canada.

  • Tried with different proxies (USA, France, Germany, Poland) but I get the same results
  • I can manually download the files from Yahoo's website
  • I tried deleting the cookies

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

I just started have the same problem on one computer that just upgraded to Windows 10 1909 from 1809. A second computer with 1809 still works fine with Yahoo.

The same problem in Canada

Same problem all around the world. I have VPN’ed to different countries around the world. All have the exact same problem. Can a developer of AmiQuote take a quick look please? May be something changed on the Yahoo side that is incompatible with AmiQuote? @Tomasz

Thanks!

UPDATE: The solution to the problem has been implemented already in version 4.05, see this: AmiQuote 4.05 released

Yes I can confirm that today (March 10, 2020) Yahoo made breaking changes to their web sites that prevents "Yahoo Historical" from working.

This is being worked on and update to AmiQuote that addresses Yahoo changes should arrive within day or two (March 11 or 12). In the meantime I recommend Tiingo data source as great Yahoo replacement. It is more reliable and faster.

I have got one request for everyone: please do NOT send more reports about Yahoo Finance to support as it takes a lot of time to read and respond to hundreds of messages and the problem has been already confirmed and is worked on. By the way: this is the example when I know when something REAL is happening. If such thing happens, I don't get one or two emails. I get hundreds. So it is quite easy to distinguish for me if problem is local or not.

Thank you very much Tomasz for the confirmation. I have tested Tinngo before. It is great if you trade US Stocks only. But unfortunately I trade US. HK, and China, Tiingo is not a replacement for what I need yet.

There is something strange happening @Yahoo. Out of the blue, this evening it started to work again in old way. You can try with existing version you should be getting data now.

I just tried with VPN to US, UK, and Hong Kong, all having the same problem as before. It does not work for me still. Not sure what the difference is between your test and mine. I am having AmiQuote 4.02.

Try without VPN. Delete browsing history in inetcpl.cpl, and then just try direct.

Did that and the same.

Well, the same. Here is the screenshots:

  1. First delete history with these options:
    screen1

  2. Then restart AmiQuote (without VPN and I am in London):
    screen2

As you can see, same errors.

i can confirm, UK is NOT working at this moment

Same here in Italy. But, as you probably know, these days we have some much more serious problems to worry about ...

Deleting browsing history didn't solve the problem. Still the same error from Yahoo.

UPDATE: link was replaced with working version 4.04

OK, you can try this version http://www.amibroker.com/bin/aq404_32bit_testing.zip (zip alone, no installer, unzip and run Quote.exe - you may need to "unblock" it in the Properties if Windows blocks it because it is "from Internet").
If you try this version it will produce yahoo_log.txt file in directory where you placed Quote.exe, and you can post it either to support or here so I can check what is wrong with cookies on your side.

I ran it. The yahoo_log.txt has only two lines:
Crumb = 'rmjRKm%2F09.r'
Cookie = 'B='

Is this what you are looking for?

Crumb = 'XyqM3ZRFTnR'
Cookie = 'B='

FWIW I also use portfolioslicer and it does not appear to have a problem accessing the Yahoo history. must use a different process I suppose.

Yes that is what I asked for, thanks. Clearly Yahoo on your end does not set the cookie at all. Correct cookie should look like this:

Cookie = 'PRF=t%3DUTX;
B=0265papf6f0qu&b=3&s=g7;
GUC=AQEBAQFeaNZecUIaMgQn;
A1S=d=AQABBGODZ14CECgYfZxLxTHU8SXlN13tGA8FEgEBAQHWaF5xXgAAAAAA_SMAAAcIXoNnXla5GAE&S=AQAAAhKQLYUqe4yNbvnCR-4cr-Q&j=GDPR'

I wild guess is that you might not have accepted GDPR consent that Yahoo now requires.
What you can do is to visit http://finance.yahoo.com from Internet Explorer, not any other browser (type iexplore.exe in the Run/Search field). Then accept GDPR consent that should be displayed like this:

I did accept GDPR on all my browers for yahoo finance, including iexplore.exe. i then ran your test again and still just got two lines in yahoo_log:
Crumb = 'fyJVIgF%2FqJ8'
Cookie = 'B='

Here in the US I did not get the GDPR prompt. But I did log in using the IE browser and the yahoo account. I deleted the log file and had it recreate. Same story different day.
Crumb = 'vqrrGLvSPuo'
Cookie = 'B='
